Sustainable development is a cross-cutting issue and needs to be addressed in many political fields.
This is why the provincial government aims to achieve the sustainability goals set by the United Nations. For this purpose the
Provincial institute of statistics (ASTAT) provides data for South Tyrol on the global indicators of the UN sustainability goals,
the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The 17 goals are political objectives of the United Nations (UN)
which are meant to ensure sustainable development on an economic, social and environmental level worldwide.
The indicators that measure the status and development of the individual goals are defined in the
Global Indicator Framework. This was adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations with the resolution 71/313.
For a number of the global indicators measurements are available for South Tyrol and are published on this platform.
Due to the limited regional availability of data statistical data are not available for all indicators.
The main source of data is the data provided by Nationalinstitut für Statistik (ISTAT) on the UN sustainability
goals for Italy and its regions. These data are supplemented - if comparable and available - with data on regions of
neighbouring countries.
The
SDG Tracker South Tyrol was first published as an alpha version on 15 June 2020 (version 2020.1). In the current version
2020.2 it offers:
- Presentation of the overall situation for each sustainability goal
- Interactive access to the data with various modes of presentation
- Territorial comparison and calculation of the long-term rate of change
- Download area with access to all data and metadata
- Detailed overview of data availability
In this version, the data provided includes statistical information on a total of
80 of the
248 indicators provided by the United Nations.
These
80.
indicators are presented as accurately as possible on the basis of a total of
165 individual measurements.
The accuracy of the measurement is defined in 3 categories:
- Identical with the UN indicator
- Similar to the UN indicator
- In line with the UN indicator
The main criteria for the statistical representation of a UN indicator is the availability
of related data through the national SDG data set defined by the
National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT) as well as their regional availability.
By focusing on this data source, it is guaranteed that the mapped data are official statistical information and that
they are available in a standardised form and are updated periodically.
The Provincial Institute of Statistics (ASTAT) processes these data and makes them available on its reporting platform
in three languages (English, German and Italian). The SDG Tracker South Tyrol eine
therefore provides an easily accessible and objective basis for the social discourse on sustainability in South Tyrol.
For this reason, ASTAT does not carry out any qualitative assessment or prioritisation of the goals,
targets and indicators defined by the United Nations. If available, comparable data on foreign neighbouring regions are added.
The exclusive source is the Statistical Office of the European Union (EUROSTAT).
In the following expansion stages of the reporting platform, the data offer will be continuously adapted to the developing national SDG data set.
